Zarkawt (Mizoram), Nov 28 (ANI): Mizoram recorded a 49% voter turnout recorded till 1 pm, during the single-phase Assembly elections in the state on Wednesday. Voting commenced in the state at 7 am for the 40-member Legislative Assembly. A voter turnout of 15% was recorded till 9 am in the state. As many as 209 candidates are contesting to bag a seat in the 40-member Legislative Assembly. The Congress party, which has been in power in Mizoram since 2008, is eyeing a third consecutive term in the state. Mizoram is the last bastion of Congress in the North-East. A total of 7.70 lakh voters will cast their franchise in 1,164 polling booths across the state. Both Congress and Mizo National Front (MNF) are contesting all 40 constituencies this time, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fighting in 39 seats. Results would be declared on December 11.
